Sorry if the facts offend you , but downtown BR will never be like Atlanta or even that city by which all others are compared , Austin . There's a lot of reasons for that and economics is just a small part of it .
This isn't about city projects. Hold your horses.

As far as I'm concerned , it's about city/parish and private development . Gotta have both .

The truth is there is no balance with city planning these days. They emphasize one part while neglecting another. Lake Charles is the same way. They are so focused on the south side growing that they neglect the urban core.

$18+ million a year is a lot of money . Who's going to pay for it ? Ticket prices won't begin to support that kind of cost . I'm not against it in theory , but the state sure can't afford it .

I don't see how it differs from all the attention along Bluebonnet, Siegen, and Perkins the last decade.

True. If it were up to me, we'd be focused on Mid-City and OSBR.

The interstate system doesn't pay for itself and we don't even have tolls. I don't see the problem with investment if it is implemented correctly. However, most of Baton Rougeans will still want unsustainable auto infrastructure.
How are we paying for the widening now? How will we pay for it in 10 years, how about the next upgrade in 20 years? Not to mention if a bypass is built, maintaining that behemoth would be expensive as well.

Wow , where do we start? The development along Bluebonnet , Perkins , and Siegen is a result of several things . The thousands of people that have moved there , and the available space . Two things that downtown B.R. doesn't have .

Mid city is partly ghetto with a couple of decent neighborhoods , depending on how you define the boundries . Not a bright future there . Sorry .

You want the goverment to pay for the rail system , like they do the interstates ? I'm asking .

The proposed bypass is a private toll road .

And private interest in downtown doesn't exist, is that what you're getting at? Actually, people are moving there, the public and private sector invest there, and there are blocks full of space.

There could be a very bright future for Mid-City. Who are you do say there isn't?
I want the government to subsidize transportation and not just roads and highways solely for car traffic. I want light and heavy rail, buses and cars, freeways and complete streets, bike lanes and etc..

The many blocks full of blighted buildings, overgrown grass, abandoned homes, and empty parking lots.
