I'm from, and live in Texas. I've got a pretty good job offer in Gonzales La, and am trying to decide if I want to take it. From what I've researched, I don't want to live in Gonzales. Where is a good location to live within about 20 miles? I have a family, with two small girls. One is in school, and one is not. Good schools are a must. My gross annual salary will be around $75K, if that helps. Thanks for any info!

You haven't given us a reason why you don't want to live in Gonzales or any criteria for a place to live. So, until you give us more to work with, we can't really give you a neighborhood or place to live. Ascension Parish (where Gonzales is) has some of the states best schools.

Gonzales is an upgrade. Prairieville is a very nice place to live.

I'm more nervous about moving away from Texas. I know Louisiana gets a bum rap on it's crime rate (I know Texas has it's fair share). That's what I'm most worried about. Is Gonzales a safe place to live? Compared to New Orleans it seems to be. If not, where should I look?

What part of Texas do you live in? Gonzales is safe, it's a typical suburb like Katy or Pearland.

I can relate to that. I lived in Conroe for a bit years ago. From what I've seen cost of living if fairly low in the area. Probably get into a nice house for around $150k or so? Thanks for the reply.

You should be able to find a 3br new construction home for that budget. Conroe is pretty far out, Gonzales is about that far from New Orleans and half that from Baton Rouge.

If you're concerned about schools, you couldn't do much WORSE than anywhere in Louisiana.

Texas schools are crappy too. Hell, you can't even speak truth about our origins in the public schools. I recommend sending your kid to Parkview. I was out there on Friday night and was impressed.

We've just moved here within the last 6 months and like it. We live in Prairieville. I think Gonzales would get good to live as well. The school system in Ascension Parish is good so any school in the system would be fine to send your children to.
