So is the River Ridge shopping center on 280 (Target, Best Buy, etc.), and the Brook Highland shopping center (what remains therein) a bit further down 280.

RiverRidge has the opening of Nordstrom Rack coming up this month.

How about something that isn't over the mountain.
If I were in downtown Memphis, Atlanta, Nashville, or Miami I would be able to shop.

I agree, but I would keep an eye on the Southside /Lakeview area...im sure some shopping will come with the population growth.

Just being realistic here. I don't know what you look for when shopping but in the cities you named, only Miami would be good for me. The rest only have off-beat junk stores and tourist trap stores downtown. Urban shopping is fun because it is eclectic, but grunge is grunge. If the mountain were not where it is you might be surprised at how close Brookwood is to downtown. In fact Target corp considers there new store there to be an urban center store.

Yep. Brookwood is five minutes from downtown, as long as you don't catch the light at the Wendy's.

Memphis ?? shopping ?? Memphis downtown has no decent shopping. Memphis suburbs has no decent shopping. Memphis doesn't even have a decent grocery/supermarket. No one who knows anything about Memphis would say that shopping is better in Memphis than Birmingham, and Bham is not great but it's a damnsite better than anything around west Tn

Anyone been to the newly opened Nordstrom Rack store?

On a al.com poll the two retailers people want to here the most is Trader Joe's and IKEA.

IKEA isnt coming, unless Birmingham experiences a major population boom. (1.5-2 million people in a 60 mile radius is what they look for)

IDK what is the deal with Trader Joe's not having a location in Birmingham yet.

Yeah. We're not getting an IKEA. I can't imagine us ever getting an IKEA when ATL's IKEA is two hours away.

I also don't understand why we don't have a Trader Joe's. Heck, Santa Fe has a Trader Joe's, with a population of 68K. Baton Rouge is getting one, so maybe the Deep South is on the rise at last with the Trader Joe's brass. (The Baton Rouge store will be the first store in AR, LA, MS or AL).

All things come in their time. I'm sure Trader Joe's will be here soon. Their parent company is putting alot of Aldis here. The ones I have been to are in fringe areas of retail. When I think of the places that fit that image there are no spaces available. Besides when a company is that big they have to do these thing like a tight social calendar.

On Ikea, we fit well into their pop range. We are just under two million in a sixty mile radius. I don't think we are a customer base for them though. I know I am not interested. I think that they do well in cities with much larger under thirty age group that has not started buying real furniture yet. I think this is true of H&M too, their merchandise is just so disposable. I do however believe they are taking the space at the Galleria near Macy's where Brooks Brothers was. GGP has done this with a coulple of its other retail centers.

ALLEN EDMOND'S is opening at the Summit in June and also at Shops at Grand River.

This quite a coup for Birmingham. They do not have a great deal of stores spread around the country so getting two at once is attention getting.

It is also nice to be able to point out a nice men's store is coming in.

Build out is going on for another store near Sophora at the Summit but alas don't know.

Happy hunting,
raj
