Capitalism masquerading as philanthropy. (nothing wrong with capitalism, just don't try to pass it off as a gift)

Was talking about the large downtown Pepsi sign. The Red Mountain Park donation is philanthropy, with some benefits perhaps built into it, as you allege. Most corporate gratuity is subterfuge. At least the trade off here would be a good one. Park might need vending machines, after all.

This is the first I've heard of The Red Mountain Park. What does it consist of? Is it safe there?

LOL!! After reading about the weirdo at the opening of the new Mountain Brook Park, sadly could imagine much worse here particularly in the secluded areas of the park or hiking trails.

Thank you so much Tourian for the link. It looks very interesting particularly the 14 miles of hiking trails.

Prelim Flats and Fourth rendering. May this be the last of these for awhile. Don't want Parkside / Southside becoming an endless sea of this:

Much better than their first proposal.

As to the design, if it had a little less style it would remind of the 'commie cubes' of years gone by. If you peruse other cities on the forum you will notice these are being built everywhere. It is the current design of rediscovered American urban living.

We are able to handle this so far as we needed a little contemporary of some sort to balance our vintage stock.

What is scary is when a few go under and the REIT's buy them up and re-paint them in island colors and call it a remodel.

well, it definitely looks like all the other apartments going up in parkside... guess there's something to be said for cohesion.

I'm awaiting for the City to engage in a superfund for the Old Ensley Mill site for a major redevelopment. Now that would be some major redevelopment for a grayfield.
