I'm pretty sure the Beer Engineers project is dead. Plans for Beer Engineers space in Parkside stallThe Terminal | Birmingham's hub

I'm not really sure if the Highland Tower apartments are under construction. The lot it is to be built on remains empty.

Patchwork Farms could be considered under construction. There is definitely work going on at that site.

Also, 4700 Colonnade is under construction in the same general area as Patchwork Farms.

That is a good list and represents many dollars.

Cahaba Brewing is moving in to the old Continental Gin site in Avondale too.

Shucks re: Beer Engineers. That's ok, our beer scene isn't wanting. Somebody will come in within the year and do something cool with that building.

Great list. Damn it feels good to be a Hambone these days.

Something really nice about the Lyric...

103-year-old mural restored at the historic Lyric Theatre | AL.com

Quote:
Two experts from EverGreene Architectural Art spent six weeks on the scaffolding, removing old, black varnish with a special solvent and then reapplying new varnish to protect the painting. All of the work was done by hand. EverGreene a New York based company, specializes in restoration and conservation historic artwork and plasterwork.
"When we got up to the mural it was black," Brant Beene explained. " It looked like it had been painted will a coat of black paint. Now it is restored to its' original splendor." Beene is the executive director of Birmingham Landmarks.
The $10 million restoration is slated for completion in December of this year. A Grand Opening of the Lyric Theatre will take place in mid-January 2016.

More about the Redmont. I guess Hilton was being cagey about their plans considering it was a surprise to many of us here when the hotel quietly closed for "renovations."

Redmont Hotel will be joining Hilton's special Curio collection | AL.com

Quote:
Birmingham's Redmont Hotel will reopen next month as a member of Hilton Worldwide's special Curio Collection.
The Curio Collection by Hilton is a group of hotels that are all unique to their locations and encourage guests to "seek local discovery and authentic experiences."
Built in 1925, The Redmont is a Birmingham landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel is currently undergoing a complete renovation that will give the 14-story building 120 guest rooms and four conference rooms.
The hotel will also offer three restaurants -- one fine dining, one café, and the state's only hotel rooftop bar, a release says.
"Birmingham itself is a historic gem, and The Redmont Hotel has long been the jewel in the city's crown, having helped shape the destination's famous southern hospitality over the past 90 years," said Bill Fortier, senior vice president of development for Americas-Hilton Worldwide.
With the World Games being hosted in 2021 in the Magic City, Fortier expects the new Redmont to be a major hub for spectators and athletes.
The Redmont is the oldest hotel in Birmingham and will be the first Curio hotel in Alabama.

A summation of the rebirth...

Birmingham Building Boom

Quote:
The magic is back. Birmingham is booming — uptown, midtown, downtown. New buildings are going up. Old buildings are being restored. A new energy, a new confidence sweeps through the streets, not like anything this old town has seen, possibly, since the start of the 20th century when unprecedented growth first inspired people to call it the Magic City.
