yeah it seems like nearly 10 years now since they had that "contest" where they asked people to send in suggestions for a use for the site. definitely a challenging building to work with.

Alamo Drafthouse has a certain ROI they want to achieve and if they, after running the numbers, can't get there, they'll scrap the project. The city of Birmingham has heavily subsidized most everything else haven't they? Why shouldn't ADH expect the same?

Birmingham already has two (or are there more?) dine-in theaters. I'm not sure it can support another one and ADH probably has no interest in gambling on Birmingham when they can build somewhere with population growth and more targeted demographic.

they obviously ran numbers at some point though, or they wouldn't have announced the project. wondering what changed.

Maybe maybe not. But strategies change and given the economy they probably 80/20'd their pipeline and scraped alot of their C tier markets. Or they couldn't get Bham to pitch in enough help.

What we don't know is the level of commitment a company has to offer in order to get on the brochure as a potential tenant.

Look at Tattersal Park down 280. It was supposed to be relatively upscale in all it's early renderings.

Birmingham losing another HQ. Wonder what this means for the local base.

JD Sports acquiring Birmingham-based Hibbett in $1.1 billion deal

This article says the headquarters will remain in Birmingham, so......
I guess the acquisition is no big deal! No real loss for Birmingham.

My friend works at Hibbett HQ and he said none of them knew about it until this morning. HQ will stay in Bham though.

Birmingham ends up with a much stronger company headquartered in the city! Quickly went from uncool to pretty cool news!

We still lose a publicly-traded company. And yes, Hibbett HQ will stay in the city (for now), but is there any guarantee the local presence won't get downsized? The "much stronger company" is now JD Sports, which is located in the UK.

Definitely a possibility that it could leave eventually. It's here for now though!
