It's happening nationwide at a lot of tech companies. Hopefully Landing can get refocused and start growing again when the economy improves.

Yeah but this was touted as being such a homerun for Birmingham and Bill even bragged about the impact it would have just to hire a bunch of highly paid white collars then lay them off within a year. Even if/when they do grow more, the growth will be not be Birmingham-centric. It will be spread and somewhere else will probably get the white-collar jobs we lost in this.

And it is happening all over the country BUT it hits Birmingham harder for two reasons:

1. Birmingham had the most white collar corporate jobs to lose
2. Same situation in other cities aren't as bad because those laid off workers have a myriad of other options whereas when you're a highly paid corporate professional, you don't have many other options here except to possibly downgrade.

Nothing to see here, just extreme right wing politics at work tearing the country apart and bringing violence.

I thought it was the left wing folks that were mad about the Jews being mean to the Palestinians.

The city probably increase fees to provide services for the event and now they are looking for another place to run it at a cheaper cost. First, they say it's the last race, but yet still considering several things. Quote from the link.

As for if the marathon would move to a nearby city, Hoover Councilmember, John Lyda, tweeted his support of moving the race there.

“What an amazing job the #RunMercedes team has done over the past 22 years. Alabama’s premier road race must continue and I know the perfect home for it...@CityofHoover! Let’s make the move to Hoover a reality and build on a great foundation."

Valerie Cuddy, Mercedes Marathon Organizer, remained mum on whether the race would move to another city.

“We’re considering several things,” she said.

Morrow said running a marathon in Birmingham is a highly sought-after accomplishment due to the rich history of the city, but he ultimately wanted to see the marathon thrive, no matter the location.

“You want to go with the cities that are very supportive of the event and willing to pitch in a little bit, and get some brakes on permitting, or police fees. If Hoover is that city, fantastic,” Morrow said.
