There is a website called chooseenergy.com, that lets you pick a new provider with a more competitive rate than your current provider. The sign up is easy. We live in Metrowest and the prices this season went up atleast 25% over the winter. Our provider is Eversource. I have since changes them through the website but yet to see a new bill with changes. It might be worth a try for others too.

Can you do this if you're a renter? Or just an owner?

I am a renter and I did it. As long as the utility bills come in your name, you can change the provider.

thanks, I took a look, there are some savings, but I just see what I think is generation charges, not delivery charges...

does that sound right?

ya, that sounds right....that would still be substantial savings. More immediate too, versus installing new heating systems.

Be careful when leaving a fixed rate supplier, you might also owe this:

Wolfgang is right. It sounds easy, but having gone through it, I think it IS NOT worth it. For one, ur previous provider will charge a variable rate from the beginning of the rate period, which is different and much higher than the fixed rate....and you can call around yelling to utility companies and even the govt, but guess what....tough luck! Neither your old nor new provider will tell you about the hit btw....for something as basic ass electricity you would think they would not BS people....
