I have one now. Got one about 4 mos ago because of a need to commute some days to Westborough. But I paid cash from the money I had saved all these years from not having one. Yeah, they're a chain around one's ankle.

That's the way to go - no monthly payments, and an option to get cheap liability only insurance without having to shell out a ton of money for full coverage if you finance or lease. Also, any nice car stops being nice in a year or so unless you have a garage parking spot and don't drive during the winter.

Liability only insurance is dangerous. You could lose every penny you have.
