People deal with it obviously, but I don't think it's really a debate that it lacks the diversity compared to other cities. Boston ranks high for things like education, healthcare, cost of living, but not for food.

I think even a city as small as Providence does a better job.

In some respects, I think this is true.

I'd also argue that larger more expensive cities like New York actually do good cheap/reasonably priced food better than Boston. Between rents, the red tape, and the prohibitive liquor licensing costs, the barriers to entry in Boston are too high in many cases and you can feel that on the consumer end when so much of the dining in the city center is either a chain (local or national) or has the backing of a corporate restaurant group.

And you're jumping way ahead here. Nobody said Boston "has" to be like anywhere else. Just making observations here, obviously the local restaurant scene knows its market.

Providence is definitely a little more willing to venture outside of its comfort zone, same thing with Portland.

What foods is Boston lacking that Providence and Portland have?

Portland is also a great example.

as a lifelong bostonian I dont go to portland or providence...so not sure why what they have bostons...but people could venture there I suppose. I'd be happy to have more people move to Portland and Providence but that doesnt seem to be happening.

A lot of people are venturing to both of those cities, which is why they are becoming ridiculously expensive just like Boston.
