Boston City Council Members are discussing lowering the speed limit again, to 15-20 MPH. They lowered it in 2017 but of course that means nothing when it's not enforced. The possibility of using technology to force vehicles to curb their speed is also being discussed. But there's no practical technology that I know of that will force people to pay full time and attention to their driving.

This is a thread about a a proposal in the city council to make a change to existing traffic laws. It's not my rant or my daily venting board, so that's the difference. This forum is to to discuss city data and public policy and that what this thread is about. It will probably be hijacked by the drama club, but I'm hopeful they'll just stay in existing drama club territory.

The speed limit can change to 5mph. If there is no enforcement than what does it matter. I think what would be more beneficial is if they set up a division to target the double parkers on main strips. A lot of revenue on the table. And it will be better for everyone , walking, driving, and cycling. Maybe go after the delivery apps themselves?

And I'm not convinced that speed is necessarily the most influential underlying problem, despite the fact that it is clearly is an issue in some cases. Behavior modification needs to happen with both drivers and pedestrians. That said, when you're operating an engine powered multi-ton piece of steel, you definitely bear a greater responsibility.

Zero enforcement for traffic violations. Have never seen it...whether it's MSP, town, or city police...in the 7+ yrs I've lived in the region.

Especially with the tax deficit now. Seems like an easy $ opportunity which will deter some bad behaviors.
