That area is mixed. There are a few very quiet and lovely streets around there where you won't find any trouble but the area is also quite close to seedier parts of Dorchester such as Four Corners and Codman Square. I would look closer to Shawmut Station and Dorchester Avenue and away from Washington Street.

Default Son looking to live in Dorchester, MA

My son is looking at an apartment on Hancock Street in Dorchester, MA. Is this a safe neighborhood?

Default Starting a Dorchester condo hunt...

Hi, total newbie here, renting in Waltham/Brighton for the last 7 years and now looking for my first condo. Ideally I would like to be in the Brewery area of JP, but it looks more like I can afford Dorchester (that is, with no help from the Bank of Dad). I've heard a mixed reaction about Morton Street, and I found a wonderfully priced short sale, newly renovated, blah blah blah, but the street address is 617 Morton and based on what I've read here, it looks too far out of Lower Mills to be in a good part of town. Anyone live near there/go by there often and know what's up? Is it bad to be so near Franklin Park (on the southeast side)? Any advice and all candor will be appreciated, of course.

It's a very busy street and gets really congested at rush hour, It's also not a great area. I wouldn't invest there myself.

I don't know if that's near the Morton St. stop on the commuter rail, but I drove past there once (during the day) and got a sketchy vibe.

Harvest St is a good area. It's an isolated section of far north Dorchester a short walk to Andrew Station. The closest bad areas from there are on the south side of Everett Square but I wouldn't worry because it doesn't spill into the Harvest St area.
My wife and I go to 224 every now and again for dinner.

You're very welcome! I grew up in Watertown which is very safe and I would have no problem living on Harvest St.

How is the area around Juliette St. (on the north side of Ronan Park)?? ...is it ok if you don't plan on walking around at night or to and from the T (which I won't be doing)? I couldn't find any recent posts regarding this area so if anyone has any feedback that would be helpful. Thanks.
