Hi Everyone,

I really don't know if anyone can help me. My mother had a relative that used to own a motel called the Sand Man Motel that was on Shelburne Road. I believe there was a drive-in theater next door to it.

Does anyone recall WHERE on Shelburne Road it was?

So, the drive in theater was in Shelburne, just south of the South Burlington line. The Residence at Shelburne Bay is there now. There is a Quality Inn right next to there which could have been it?

So the more I dig into this the more I think the current Quality Inn is the old Sand Man. Compare the street view on Google to some old photos you can find doing a Google Image search.

Easy peasy.

Burlington Drive-In
2634 Shelburne Road,
Burlington, VT 05482

300 - 400 car capacity +- Went to two screens about late 1970s or early 1980s. Owned by either the Handy family or one of the Jarvises. The other main family running theaters in Vt was Tegue, I think.

Opened in the mid fifties, and IIRC the motel on the west side of the road had windows in the rooms where the movies could be seen.

Not quite sure why it closed while the Sunset remained open unless Gordon owned it.

That sounds about right. I remember when we stayed there (sometime in the early-mid '70s), we could see the screen. My mother told me that my uncle-who owned the motel, had rigged something so people who stayed in the motel could hear the movie. This was before in-room movies. lol.

Thanks to both of you so much.
