I'm planning on getting a mini-van and turning it into a mini-camper next year, so I've been doing some research. One of the reasons I want one, is so I can stay overnight in towns with better shopping, which are all about 2 hours away. Because of my bad neck and back, I can't go and come back the same day, as it's too long of a day for me.

Anyway, I was looking at camping options around Eureka and there's a KOA campground just outside of town that has wi-fi. That made me think I'd like to stay there, as I could use wi-fi to get online there and stream my Amazon Prime movies, etc. So, wi-fi might be a factor to keep in mind.

I've also learned how you can turn your cell phone into a wi-fi hotspot, which would be great if you were somewhere with good cell reception, but no wi-fi. I learned that you don't want to stream videos or music on your cell data plan, but you can surf the internet without using too much data. And, you could always just take some movies with you, instead of streaming them.

At any rate, these things might weigh in on your decision - wi-fi and/or cell service. I will be traveling alone with my dog, so I will always want to have one or the other wherever I stay, for safety if not for entertainment.

I have never been at a campground where the WiFi was strong enough to stream movies.....also check with this local KOA you plan on staying at...most KOA'S are pretty strict when it comes to RV'S and most do not allow home made rv set ups...If it does not have a RVIA sticker on the unit they normally turn it away.......just a FYI

Really? Even if they allow tent camping? I would just need a space to park a Toyota minivan. I figured I could just get a tent spot. The KOA near Eureka has tent spots, too. Looks like a nice campground:

Thanks for the heads-up on the internet speed. I'm thinking I'll just download movies when I go on trips anyway. But, if I could get online that would be great.

WiFi, they have the more or less a Cable Company Biz Internet Connection ~100mbs,

But its being shared by every one in the camp ground + what they need to run things within the "office", they may be steaming camera to there home.

To Stream a movie you would need 10-15mbs, and you won't get that sharing the line with everyone else, its for checking your Email, doing so web browsing,

If they are smart in there WiFi setup they will set the QOS on the routers/WiFi, give streaming a very low priority in the packet stream.

We travel in a motorhome and usually stay in KOAs if available. You can go on line to review the various campgrounds ahead of time. (RV Park Reviews)

We are travelling for a year. For us, everybody is different, I have God Sam, Thousand Trails and Passport America. I use Thousand Trails for weekends and stays for a week or more. I use Passport America on shorter stays during the week.

When we RV'd (it has been over 9 years since we stopped we had membership in
1.Thousand Trails/NACO/RPI plus one through TT that gave us a couple of additional parks in Oregon(don't remember name)
2. Passport America
after going fulltime
3. Resorts Of Distinction through a park in the Bend/La Pine OR area.
4. Escapee's

We weekend/vacationed RV'd from around 1986 to 1997 then went fulltime. (picked up ROD during the fulltime period). We almost exclusively used the Thousand Trails(TT) system (was out almost every weekend). During our full time travels (spring and summer) the only time we stayed in non-membership parks was when a membership park was outside our driving time (4-5 hours) and it was usually only overnight except when no membership parks were available. Very rarely boondocked but Wal-Mart/casino parking lots were good overnight stays.
Now we still have friends that travel extensively and their opinion of TT has drastically been, how should I say, not good. Of course this opinion is based on the 1980's system. As far as KOA, we have only used them twice, they were nice parks. We stayed out of the State/Forrest Service campgrounds if we could (don't really want to get into why here). So, if you plan on using your RV extensively and a membership park system is in your area you might look into them (except for TT...have turned sour on them, if you want reason contact via Direct Message)

In Mo. they have free camping in many of the Conservation areas as well as that's in Ks as well. You can stay 14 days free. And registering either. Mostly primitve around a lake.

Good fishing for sure and some hunting also.

If you report it to KOA you just might save some other poor SOB from an unpleasant experience.
