What do you mean outside of Yukon? Yukon is one of the places where you'd need guns the most, especially outside Whitehorse (admittedly 3/4 of Yukon's population lives in Whitehorse...). Most of Canada doesn't live in excessively remote locations. The countryside where I live doesn't have any predators bigger than a coyote, which can cause deer to get overpopulated. I'm not sure if wolverines or badgers have ever preyed on humans. Wolves and black bears very rarely prey on people. Mountain lions and grizzlies are more likely to prey on people, but they mostly just exist in rural areas of Western Canada. There's been recent sightings of mountain lions in Eastern Canada but they're still very rare here.

I've seen black bears in the wild many times here, even had to confront one once, but don't have a gun, although I have no problem with those who do and am not opposed to the idea of having one myself. Realistically, you are still more likely to need a gun to defend yourself from humans than from animals if you're Canadian.

Checking in from Ontario. I own several:

12 guage shotgun for waterfowl/turkey hunting.
.22-250 for varmint control and plinking.
.30-06 for deer, moose and bear hunting.
12 guage rifled shotgun for deer hunting in shotgun only WMUs.
.22 semi-auto for plinking.
12 guage security shotgun for home defense.
.50 black powder muzzle-loader for when I'm feeling like a pirate.

...and a .45-70 lever action for anything on four legs that might need killin'.
