For those who feel that a Canadian had no business there ...
Canadians participated in the Vietnam War. Canada was not a belligerent, but 30,000 Canadians participated anyway. Mostly, by crossing the border and signing up with US forces.
Serving in another country's forces in time of war is nothing new to Canadians. It's what we do.
Oh, by the way, Americans--that's 30,000 Canadians who fought with you in Vietnam. Do you remember them? Do you even care about them? Are their names on your wall in Washington DC? Do they get VA benefits from you? Do they get anything from the country they went to help?
I'll reserve comment for now.
I assume their deaths were noted in Canadian newspapers.
When more information about this young man comes to light I wouldn't be surprised if we learn that his family in Canada are all from Ukraine, that he has other close family members in Ukraine and that he is a Ukrainian-Canadian just like so many others of us are.
Some people in other countries aren't aware of how close the family and patriotic ties are between so many Canadians and Ukrainians in both Canada and Ukraine. Canada has the world's third-largest Ukrainian population behind Ukraine and Russia and the Ukrainian-Canadians in Canada are Canada's eleventh largest ethnic group.
So I think that no foreigner from a foreign country and now living in yet another, different foreign country (which is not Canada) is in any position to state that a fight in Ukraine is not a fight of any Ukraine sympathizing Canadians who feel the familial and patriotic call to fight for Ukraine, the motherland of ancestors of many Canadians and their Ukrainian families here in Canada.
Next thing you know we'll be hearing from other undiplomatic foreigners making uncalled for comments to the effect that when Canadians went overseas to Europe in the 20th century to fight in World Wars 1 and 2 that those wars were not the Canadian's fight either, that they were not heroes and that they should have stayed at home playing games.
.
Unlike you, I did watch videos some time ago of some of these people (from UK, Canada, US, etc...) after fighting as mercenaries or "volunteers" or whatever. Many clearly said "I did not know what I was getting into, we got artillery shooting back!! We were incessantly bombed from planes!!" and many of them left quickly with the lucky ones without losing limbs or their life. They thought they were doing a shooting safari against people with sandals and AK-47 with the occasional RPG.
They are usually adrenaline seekers or worse.
I understand that you may think they are "heroes", after all you are from a country with a parliament that recently did a standing ovation for an actual Nazi, so you are a bit confused up there

Nothing will cement America’s viability as a partner for trade and investment with the rest of the world like if citizens like you get your way and they just lie down and let their allies get devoured by fascist expansionism. Where’s the brain rot coming from? Is it Grayzone/Russia Today or are you more an OAN/Tucker Carlson guy? Russia’s investment in English language propaganda sure is working on people like you and paying off for them in the information war. It’s like you’re cheering on the decline of your country

I simply use my own brain and I read history. I suggest you to do the same. Until you are stuck in a manichean, simplistic sound bite friendly narration "we are good, you are bad" we are not going anywhere.
If you think western media is devoid of propaganda (and a low quality one to boot, manichean indeed, good for 7th graders), I have a tower to sell you in downtown Toronto.
The catastrophic collapse in quality of western leadership is a subject of study already and it will be a source of intense debate among future historians.
Do you think this professor is the same guy? I find it strange that no article about the fighter killed references that. LaPress says he joined the French Foreign Legion at one time. https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/2...is-fauches.php
It would make sense it's the same guy. According to the link posted in here, his areas of teaching and his publications show he had a clear interest in Eastern European conflicts and politics.

One of Trudeaus many blunders. Embarrassing.
Trudeau should really step down over this.
