I'm in a situation where I've been stuck in Oregon caring for a family member. I've had my heart set on moving back to the south (previously lived in Pell City AL) I have been looking at Chattanooga as a place to settle in the future. I wanted to get some thoughts on living there. I'm more of a stay at home person, don't really need concerts, bars or the exciting night life. I work in property management but have had a wide rage of professions and jobs in my 35 working years. I currently pay 3,000 dollars a month for a 1 bedroom apartment, cost of living in Oregon and other things are absurd. I heard different things about the job market, cost of living etc. Would love to hear from some locals what it's like living in this city?

Basic stuff, cost of living, apartments/home rentals and the availability? Here in Oregon the wait list for apartments are 4-8 years long.

Job market, how it is and in general how the city is. Friendly people? I guess just basic life and living questions of how Chattanooga is.

I appreciate your time.
Thank you.

I visited and thought the people were great. It seems to me like the cost of living is low as long as you live outside of the trendy south end and downtown areas. The mountains surrounding the city are expensive real estate as well. The weather seems great and there is plenty to do outdoors. I would definitely live here if I could secure a job.

Thank you so much for your thoughts. I'm leaning more and more to heading there in the near future

I agree with TD*.

I'm a native Californian who lives in Texas, and has travelled all over the continental U.S.

If I left Texas, it would probably either be for the Chattanooga metro area or the Tampa Bay area (or possibly a couple of other areas of Florida).

Thank you for your insight. I am native to California but haven't lived there in 25 years. Spent some time in Texas (8 years) before coming to central Oregon to care for a sick family member. I absolutely hate it here and Chattanooga had caught my eye awhile back and I hope to make the move in the near future.

They weren't that common a few years ago, but now I see them everywhere. I live outside Chattanooga.
