Kenilworth is a traditional inner-ring wealthy suburb like Shaker Heights or Scarsdale. It has some huge houses east of Green Bay Road, but the house size is constrained by the lot size. I believe it has the highest average income of any Chicago suburb.

However, the real "reality show" monsters tend to be in outlying areas with more land: Lake Forest, Barrington Hills, Long Grove, Kildeer, and so forth. As any statistician will tell you, the average and the distribution of outliers are very different things.

There is also a magnificent inner-ring area of huge houses on unincorporated land west and south of Winnetka, in the Woodley Road and Indian Hill areas. These houses are older than the outlying ones and really sweet.

Hope that helps.

Funny that a town like Kenilworth, separated from Chicago by Evanston, Wilmette and Winnetka is considered "inner ring" by some one...

Kenilworth is clearly an inner ring suburb considering how far the ring extends. To be clear...Kenilworth is not separated from the city by Winnetka, it is south of Winnetka, closer to the city and only about 13 or 14 miles from the Loop.

Right, what would be inner than? Only places that physically touch the City?

Yes.

"Near north suburb" maybe but not inner ring. The inner sing suburbs are the suburbs that touch the city and form a ring around the city - except for Lake Michigan.

Ooohh....so that's where those huge houses are located. I see 'em all the time coming and going from Milwaukee via. bus or train.

All I see is the back of them though. -_-

Kenilworth is south of Winnetka, not north of it.

KW is not "first ring" but it was fully developed by 1925. Ask someone from Round Lake Beach where Kenilworth is and, if he's heard of it, he'll say "in the city."

Cool site, thanks for sharing it here sunny. I often wondered anyway what the median age for when residences were built, in some of these neighborhoods and suburbs....
