District 211 in chicago's northwest suburbs. Specifically Fremd High school. Which along with schools like New Trier, and Barrington H.S. boast some of the best test scores, highest paid teachers, etc. I went to Fremd Highschool, and as much as I hated it, the things i was taught there enabled me to go to school in california, and jump start a career.

I grew up in Deerfield, and would consider Deerfield HS and Highland Park HS, probably also Lake Forest HS, to be top suburban schools. For what it's worth, my siblings and I all went to Ivy League schools from DHS.

I thought New Trier Winnetka and Hinsdale Central were Nos 1 and 2, without the bias of these other threads.

That's true. Ranked by PSAE scores, the top 5 high schools outside of Chicago are New Trier, Hinsdale Central, Stevenson, Glenbrook North, and Deerfield.

Don't believe Newsweek's ranking, they rank by how many students TAKE the AP exams or IB exams. Chicago sun times ranks by actual scores (percentiles).

Be careful with the Sun-Times's rankings. They are only looking at reading and math scores - the PSAE tests on reading, math, and science. They also are basing their rankings on average scores, not on the percent of students meeting state standards. This means the schools are ranked relative to each other instead of by how well each school is teaching students what they are supposed to be learning.

The Sun-Times rankings aren't perfect, but I do think they provide a pretty good overview since those schools pass the "smell test" of what would be considered the best high schools. You should note that the Chicago schools listed at the top are all magnet schools (students have to apply for admission similar to college), so they are taking the top of the city's high school population.

I would give a two thumbs up to schools in district 230 which are Carl Sandburg in Orland Park, Victor J Andrew in Tinley Park and Amos Alonzo Stagg in Palos Hills. District 230 All are great schools in my opinion.
