When I lived in Lakewood (Cuyahoga Co.) and worked in Elyria (Lorain Co.), I paid taxes on the same income in BOTH communities. That is why I have recommended to several friends to locate their businesses and residences in unincorporated areas like Anderson Township where there are no earnings taxes period.
Interesting. My very limited knowledge of local income taxes in Ohio has been that if you live in one jurisdiction with an income tax, and we work in another with an income tax, one jurisdiction (typically the one you live in) gives you credit for the taxes paid to the other, so you are not hit twice. Obviously, your experience shows that is not always the case. Good information.

Beyond Anderson having no income tax, it is a very nice community. It was a bit too far away from where we wanted to be, but otherwise, I think could see living a very comfortable life there.

Its the same scenario where I described my former in-laws moving from Forest Park to Springfield Township to not get hit with double income tax because my ex wifes aunt manages a credit union in cincy and was paying income tax twice. Once for cincy because she worked in city limits and still got hit again because she lived in Forest Park.

That is the case in some communities but not others. In 2000, the last year we lived in Ohio, our marginal tax rate was 7.5% state, 2.5% Elyria City and 1.5% Lakewood. That totaled 11.5% in state and local taxes. (The Ohio state income tax rates have gone down in the last decade.) When I relocated my business to Illinois, I was paying 3.0% state income tax and no municipality taxes. And the property tax rates were very similar.

What is really oppressive is the impact of the local income on GIG workers. If you work in many municipalities, you file MANY city income tax returns. In one of our joint returns, we filed local tax returns in NINE different cities. Granted, this was in Cuyahoga County and may not be as bad in Hamilton Co.

Had I taken the time to do my research and listened to my employees more, I would have purchased a home in Elyria which would have lessened my taxes and took 20 miles off my commute each way.

Left Texas on Friday, spent 2 1/2 uneventful days driving, and arrived in Cincinnati yesterday afternoon. Movers come on Friday to deliver our furniture to our new (to us) place in Loveland. Looking forward to getting settled and living in our new community. Thank you to everyone here who responded to our questions and shared their advice with us.
