On a lot of posts over the years, I have focused on the national media's point of view of Cleveland. A lot of times I felt that they have done more harm than good to Cleveland for a long time. It's starting to shift a little and they're starting to have more of a favorable view towards the city. Now, I want to shift focus to the local media (TV, newspapers, blogs, social media); some have felt that they have hurt the city's image by talking about the crime and other drawbacks while some feel they haven't done enough to promote the city's attributes. How has our local media helped or hurt the image of Cleveland? Have they helped contributed to the nation's perception? Can they do more to promote its attributes?

I don't think so.

Cleveland's media, these days is very rah-rah Cleveland; I see them promoting Cleveland more than engaging in negativity. If anything, Cleveland media, esp the Plain Dealer newspaper, rags on Ohio politically for its right-wing tilt and shenanigans... and how could I argue with this? Ohio politics are a JOKE these days.

I will say the PD used to be very negative toward Cleveland esp under long-time publisher/editor Tom Vail . At some point, in the late 60s/early 70s, the PD took the extraordinary step of dropping the name "Cleveland" from its masthead title, making Cleveland, to this day, the ONLY major city paper I know of that doesn't sport its hometown's name -- even both DETROIT papers carry their troubled (but rapidly improving) city's name! -- as I side note, I recall Case Western Reserve U, during Cleveland's troubled 1980s, of actually hiding the fact CWRU was located in Cleveland to prospective students. (but in 2013, even Vail praised the City's growth under Frank Jackson in an editorial -- long after Vail had retired)... Things are a-changing for the positive, media-wise, no doubt.

100% agreed here. There are little to no problems in Cleveland online or in print: it's instead how people are flocking to downtown to live, and oh my god the wonderful new restaurants and craft breweries!!!!!

No declining population, crime mentioned as an aside, schools never acknowledged for good or bad. It's like a vacuum.

Except for the Scene. Thank God for the Scene.

They do a good job promoting Cleveland overall...and those that think they focus too much on crime are crazy...they have to do that...it's the city's job to stop the increasing levels of crime.

Scene is incredibly half baked, barely gathers facts whatsoever (mostly farms reddit for content and sources), and have some of the worst writing I've ever seen. It's an absolute joke.
