Near Penrose Hosp and Cascade.
These holes appear overnight...they are exactly round like a quarter and 2-3 inches deep.
They are not in grass, necessarily..but in the dirt in the alleys even!
And along my new stone path ..just dirt and gravel all around it. What the heck?

Btw, I know the ''cone shape'' skunk noses leave looking for insects.
Someone said squirrels? That sure would make me feel better... I could live with that.

I think you may be talking about Antlion holes. It is an insect that makes these cone-shaped depressions to trap their prey.

Could be the western Cicada Killer. It's a solitary wasp that digs holes for paralyzed cicadas that it lays its eggs in.

If not cone shaped, I guess I always thought it was skunks.

I realized an excellent description is ....if you poked a roll of quarters into the ground.
I'm also getting from you all ...you are not seeing this...my neighbor is in his lawn.
Maybe it IS squirrels.

Are you in this part of Colorado?

I'm in the south and Armadillos will go to town making small holes in your yard.

I'm off Tejon and I've got those holes all over the place, but only in my grass. Skunks, raccoons, or squirrels are the likely culprits.

I trapped and removed 3 skunks last year. A friend a couple blocks over caught 8. Racoons trashed my neighbors boat interior over the winter. We got plenty of squirrels this year too. More than usual. We need to fox back in the ditch.

We don't have armadillos in Cos.

Its racoons, I didn't know what was doing it either so we put a blink camera out and sure enough they were digging.
