Well-- It's been a few months here in Utah. I have some thoughts. First, it is beautiful here and I look forward to experiencing the winter months- although I am sure it's gonna be a rough one for me. But, I am a winter person and I think I"ll be ok.

However-- there are some things about Utah that I was not prepared for. Specifically, the heavy influence of the Mormon church here which kinda has created some issues for me socially and culturally.

I am trying to be optimistic, but I don't see that as a long term thing I want to deal with. I am trying to be patient and that maybe I can get used to it ? I was raised in a conservative area and family, but I am not right learning at all personally.

If not- I am not sure of my next step. Colorado could be an option and it would be a much better fit for me as a person, but as I have been reading most districts do not give a teacher their full years of experience upon hiring (Which I think is so wrong) and that would drop my salary far too much. The Denver area (even outside of Denver) has become far too expensive as I have read and I can't see going somewhere more expensive with a reduced salary ?? I'd only be renting--but, that is so high from what I've read.
I dunno ??

I have never understood when people promote Utah as a place with cultural (or religious) diversity. The truth is that it's still very heavily dominated by the Mormon church and the culture that creates and as a non-Mormon I know I would have a hard time fitting in.

Denver would be a better fit. Right now you might have an easier time finding a teaching job as there are many vacancies because of the pandemic issues. Do research as some districts pay much better than others.

People promote Utah as diverse?

Also posting the exact same post in two threads is kinda wacky.

How about a federal teaching job?

With the BIA on a Native American reservation (which might include free housing) or with DoDEA overseas (which would include free housing).

Look at USA Jobs.

How many years experience do you have? I work in Colorado Springs School District 11 and they usually take about 14 years' experience plus degrees. Some other districts might take more or less. Housing is getting expensive and hard to get in, but I would recommend that you rent to start out anyway so you can figure out what you want and need before being committed to a place.

Actually people do promote Utah as a place that would be comfortable for non-Mormons to fit into and as a place that no longer has a strong Mormon effect. I see this often on CD when people ask about places to move.

This^^^
Friends that teach DoDEA wish they had done it many years ago.

BIA can offer debt forgiveness, if that would be of benefit to op.

Definitely explore wages and options outside of Denver metro. Many nicer places to live and work than Denver. (Utah is probably better QoL).

Alaska?

Or teaching in a private school. I couldn’t live in Utah for the exact reasons the op mentioned. Go where you feel comfortable.

I can honestly say I have never heard that narrative. Actually just the opposite. I have read threads on here from folks that say a lot of communities are closed and hard to break into if you are not of the majority faith.
