Of course the city is promoting this as part of the Columbus 2025 pump.
Same old deal...only the date is changed.
Most all the freebees are city run including that infamous cup of coffee with the mayor....lol

Columbus 2025 is part of the Chamber of Commerce and is not part of the Columbus City Government. It's is a chamber initiative. Not a taxpayer's government function. The hyperbolic alarmists on social media keep saying: "Skip Henderson is enacting this plan and is giving away City Taxpayers Money of 7K per person because Henderson's "Sanctuary City" of Columbus Georgia wants to bring in Illegal Migrants, Venezuelan Gangs, Illegal Haitian Refugees, and Middle Eastern Terrorists to Columbus Georgia by begging them to move to Columbus for free with Taxpayers Money to change the voter demographic. The hyperbolic fear tactics of fake news has damaged our business community and their local families immensely and its doubtful that the fear and anger instilled by these viral social media lies can ever be reversed. The real story about bringing business professionals to Columbus is not viral. Only the loud hyperbolic lies are going viral and drowning out the real program's intent.
Columbus 2024 is a Chamber of Commerce function, and the Chamber does not belong to city government. 7K in incentives isn't given to just everyone and anyone in the world who responds, and Columbus 2025 isn't asking for unemployed low-level unskilled noncitizens to come flooding here for a free living with free money as the social media panic-filled drones are telling you. The 7K is only available to qualified professional applicants with higher-end professional or high skilled technical careers to reimburse them for their moving expenses as an incentive for offering their professional services to Columbus. We need more than just the flood of nonskilled low wage jobs. I'm not discounting the importance of low wage labor. It's also important. But the Chamber would like to elevate the city and elevate the opportunities for residents beyond Dollar General stock clerk jobs. The 7K package includes reimbursement for relocation up to a limited amount and the "goodie bag" of activities, (such as free passes to fun local activities like introduction to Whitewater or Ziplining with free passes or introductory tours of local facilities like the National Infantry Museum), are no different than hundreds of other cities' chambers of commerce that offer "Welcome Wagon Baskets" to new professionals bringing their talents to their own cities with movie theater tickets or lobster dinners. It's a good thing to attract professionals to the community during this American Population Shift instead of watching all of them move straight to Florida or Texas. Anyone claiming that this is "city taxpayers money" or claiming this money is going to "noncitizens" is either misinformed by internet lies, or they are themselves outright lying for political purposes. The Chamber doesn't belong to the Columbus Consolidated Government nor Muscogee County. The Chamber is doing it's duty by trying to elevate our business community. People should offer assistance to the Chamber instead of mocking them and trying to stop them.

The bottom line is that this is just another in the NUMEROUS el cheapo ways the Chamber and powers that be are trying desperately to compete in a city that is just too far behind and will never catch up.
It really reeks of a city whose leadership has been a massive failure in all counts as anyone with a brain can see the local infrastructure is in tatters. They sunk every available dollar into uptown and it is now failing as well according to chamber officials and now is a magnet for the very people they did not welcome....riff raff from across the river and a circle of small towns around the city who have now set up shop here to destroy and pillage what hard working honest law abiding people have worked their entire lives for.
When you have to literally beg for people to come here which is really what this is all about it makes community look cheap undesirable and desperate.
This city is cursed with the worst leadership I have seen in my many years of travel and living in countless cities here and abroad.
No contest.
