My husband and I are considering a move to Columbus for retirement. We currently live in Albany, NY. I would like to hear from people who have relocated to Columbus for their retirement. Give me to good, the bad and the ugly. Appreciate your responses.

Didn't move to Columbus to retire, but on the negative side, Columbus-area has fairly high property taxes and exploding home values. Not ideal for retirees. On the postive side, Columbus is a fantastic place to live and work. I absolutely love living here

Thanks for your reply 304eer. Coming from New York State the taxes in the Columbus area aren't as bad. I'm sure it depends on the area that one moves to. We are thinking of Grove City and Galloway. Any thoughts on those areas?

Taxes will definitely be cheaper in that area. More expensive in New Albany, Dublin, Worthington, Upper Arlington, etc.

Grove City is a quickly growing area. There are a decent amount of newer built houses in the area. Galloway is a little more rural, but new construction is creeping that way as well.

Columbus is the type of place you leave when you retire, not retire to. I'm not planning on staying any longer than I have to. It's also a very politically corrupt place.

Yessir. I have lived in Cols for 30+ years. Currently building a home near the beach in SW Fla.

Can't wait to get out of here. I'm bored and the weather SUCKS.

I know someone who moved from Oregon to Columbus for retirement to be close to family.

Columbus has many different areas, each with a different vibe.

I would advise you to explore. It really all depends on what you're looking for.
I think it's one of the best cities in the midwest. 2nd to Chicago.
You can find city life or rural life. Or something in between.

i retired and moved from Ohio to the shores of Alabama. Ohio's weather is horrible, always cloudy, long cold season and road construction 9 days a week 567 days a year.. Good luck though as anything has to be better than New York IMO..

I lived in Powell for years. When I retired 11 years ago I moved to San Diego. Never thought it was politically corrupt but I’ve been gone for years. It’s mostly white collar and middle class. Reasonable home prices. But the weather. That’s another story.
