Outlook Express 5 to Outlook 2003 running in Windows 7
I have basically the same setup on my laptop with the same Export/Import and it worked. A client's Outlook shows the full set of addresses in the Contacts folder, but won't display the address book. File not found/won't open error.
I have opened Properties for the Contacts folder and added it as an address book with no success. I have tried importing he wab file (Which various sites including MS says I can do and it imports 0 items. I can import from a csv file, but no address book.
I have imported the wab file into Windows mail so it's not corrupted, and exported from Windows Mail to a csv file with the same results.
Found a set of steps that were slightly different than all the ones I had tried before.
This is what I ended up doing that worked:
Open Outlook
Tools
Email Accounts
View or change directories or address books
Next
Remove all listed address books
Finish
Close Outlook
Open Outlook
Tools
Email accounts
Add a new directory or address book
Additional address books
Select Outlook address book
Next
OK
Close Outlook
Open Outlook
Open Contacts
Right-click the folder right above the contacts bar at left
Properties
Outlook Address Book tab
Check the box that reads "Show this folder as an email address book."
OK
I can't remember if I had to close Outlook at this point. If you open the address book and it's empty change the option in the drop down list at the right to Contacts. If it's still empty close Outlook and reopen it. Try address book again.
LOL! More like: "Since you forgot where to look here is an update."
