Hi--
I need to spend about 4 nights in Corpus. Most cities have an area/street with a few of the old Mom & Pop court-style motels that are barely making it but which offer reasonably clean, air-conditioned rooms for $30 or less.
Can somebody please tell me where this area is in Corpus? Even better would be a recommendation for a specific motel . . . Thank you!

For $30, if there is such a hotel in CC it's going to be on Leopard street and it's going to be a flop house for prostitutes and drug addicts. Sorry, but it's true. I'm sure they'll rent you a room, but beware of your neighbors. There are some family owned places on Corpus Christi beach, but I don't know their rates or how safe they are.

There's a Red Roof Inn and some other cheap chains near the airport. I think those will be your best bet, although they won't be $30.

Also, try the Catalina Motel, 361-855-7331, and the Sea Ranch Motel at 361-853-7366. They are small and family owned, but I don't know what their rates will be because they're in a good location.

Googling "Catalina motel Corpus" led me to a site which lists "mom & pop motels". (11 on Leopard St!)

Along with the 2 two I recommended above, the Summer Place is very cute from the outside. The others I don't know anything about. Las Conchas is on Corpus Christi beach and it might be ok.

Default motels in corpus

Mid-town motel and
cactus motel
are sort of ghetto . . anything on that side of town will be a little ghetto if it isnt a franchise

tally ho motel is gone . . tore it down to build a school

the franchise ones will be expensive though

modern motel is decent
monterrey motel is also and both of these are within your price range before spring break at least

yea i think catalina is alright too

Are you serious, my friend?? I'd rather be safe and spend about fifty to seventy five dollars a night in something clean and in a safe area rather than someplace where you might not get any sleep. I know you want to keep your spending down, but you've got to be realistic. In the 1960's, Joe's Motel would have been fine. In the 2000's, that just doesn't happen anymore. And in any city, regardless of where you're going, you can't let your guard down.

Try the SPID corridor or areas near the beach. You'll have to pick a chain. Sorry.

If you drop by any Denny's, you can pick up a current copy of RoomSaver, or better yet just go to roomsaver.com. From there, you can print out coupons which give you some great discounts.

For Corpus Christi, RoomSaver offers the following right now for under $40:

Gulf Beach II Luxury Motor Inn On The Corpus Christi Beach 361 882-3500 $29.95
3500 Surfside Corpus Christi, TX 78408

Days Inn Corpus Christi 361 882-3297 $35.00
4302 Surfside Blvd Corpus Christi, TX 78402

Knights Inn 866 859-6278 $38.95
3615 Timon Blvd Corpus Christi, TX 78402

Red Roof Inn 361 992-9222 $39.99
6805 S. Padre Island Drive Corpus Christi, TX 78412

Note that you DO need the coupons to get these rates, so grab the coupon book or print them from the web site before you show up.

best regards,
Robert
