No, this is why some cyclists in cities ride with helmet cams. Riding armed is idiotic.

BTW, this video has been discussed on RBR.

So what your point??

Do you have one?

And----

Yes, many cyclist I know ride armed. Some with knives, some with guns, some with a spring baton and some with tasers. It's a choice depending on your risk factor and where you ride.

Wasn't digging all the anti-Semitic remarks on the you tube page. The rider was confronted by a bunch self-righteous, fundamentalist, religious nuts, and they endangered his life with their arrogance.

I can only imagine what would have happened if he took a shot or even peppered sprayed the know it all that boxed him in.

I hope he took the video to the police (but we all know nothing will happen).

I didn't watch the entire video, just the first five or so minutes. The man who confronted the cyclist sounded like he might be mentally ill...I have a mentally ill relative who will confront strangers randomly and accuse them of things.

If that happened to me, I would call the police while it was happening. There's no way I would let it go on for that long without calling the police.

I sometimes carry a weapon when I ride, but it's for dogs and wild hogs, not people. It's not appropriate to use a weapon during a verbal confrontation like the one in the video, you'd end up in jail.

Yes I have a point and thought it was clear. My point is that riding with a weapon will only lead to bad things. Learn to use your words. If I felt threatened enought that I thought a weapon was necessary for an activity, I wouldn't engage in that activity.

I agree with everything Pirahna said.

Afghanistan?

Here's some free information, the best weapon we have is video, that sends motorists running for the hills. And you don't need one on your helmet. If you have a cell phone, just pull it out and start taping, or just pretend. If someone is doing something wrong, they will run in most cases. Believe me, I've used it on a couple occassions - just whip out the phone, point it at them and the nonsense stops immediately. It's a little aggressive though so I wouldn't do it except in an extreme case. Stay safe.

Not everyone has a cell phone stuck to the side of their head !

Hell, not everyone carries a damn cell phone when they ride!

Yeah, someone carrying a weapon is much more likely and useful than a cell phone. Lots of things to shoot or stab on a ride. Last night on my commute home I saw a Canada Goose on the local MUP - that A hole got a chinese star right to the eye. Another cyclist was passing as this happened and I asked to use his switchblade. He of course had one at the ready and finished the goose off.

Ummm, and the phone is usually in a jersey pocket or something - I found that a better option than taping it to my head.

Are you for real bro? Your brain seems to work in a strange way. I would guess that the vast majority of people who ride any reasonable distance would have a phone with them. Phone, cash, credit card, spare tube & levers & C02, patch kit, etc. all are pretty standard items on a ride.

But back to the point. Carrying a weapon on a ride is a very off thing to do and will only lead to bad things.

Where the F-K do you live? We have bears and mtn lions in my area and no one rides with weapons.

Now I understand why you fear clipless pedals.

Yep. Not to mention that a .357 revolver adds a good 1.5lbs to your overall weight.
