Can anyone direct me to the person or persons that decided to block certain streets access to Salem Avenue? I used to live on Earlham Drive and notice streets that used to be accessible by car are now blocked by flower pots and other additions. The streets I noticed were just north of Grand Avenue.

My thought is that this happened to lessen crime in the area, but I would like to know the specific reason and if it helped. THANKS!!!!!

I don’t know about this specific neighborhood, but usually those types of diversions are built to prevent speeding through residential neighborhoods. They were everywhere when I lived in Berkeley CA.

A lot of times this is done as a way to combat drug traffickers and prostitution, they did something similar in the Five Oaks neighborhood near Main St. during the 1990s because of guys cruising around looking for prostitutes or a stamp bag.
