The crime rate is pretty high and there's a reason for it. Do the research.

Guess "I" would stay away.

Those are some pretty scary stats. I must not be looking in the right places because in the times I've gone to Smyrna, I've seen nice people, nice stores, nice streets, a great diner (Smyrna Diner) and a 55+ community in which I would be happy to live. I've also driven through many sections of the town "just looking" and really did not find any signs that would indicate crime would be an issue.

I've found some of the trouble spots in other areas, like one downtown section in Dover, one seedy looking section in Camden, one area near route 95 in Wilmington, etc ... but not Smyrna. I'll be looking again in December.

Charley

[b][color="DarkRed"]Hi......I found Smyrna okay. We almost moved there. There are sections as in Dover that you want to stay away from but that is everywhere.
A load of new homes and communities are being built as well as shopping centers.
The seniors are flocking to Smyrna, So I hear.

I agree with Charley....I found the people nice, lots of stores and well kept.
There is a section above the diner that you do not want to walk alone.
I can't think of the name of the street we turned on to from 13. It was a section that was not too good but like charley said "every city has its bad spots".

THat may be true MPBsr but dont' you think every city has its bad spots? Lets be fair and tell the whole truth.
I have been to parts of smyrna that were nice residential areas.

Yes, every city has some bad spots, but in this case the crime rate is based upon the whole city and unless you live in a bubble, it will affect you.

I'm not sure how the crime rates compares with other cities but to me smyrna is a nice town to live in.
It has also become a popular spot for seniors.

Don't get me wrong, we drove through it 2 years ago and throught it was very nice. But not with the crime being a 7 on a scale of 10.

MBPsr - you're right. I'd love to see the actual details - and time frame - behind that number. 7 is an awful number.

Is that worse than a part of Dover?
