Just to add another source of infections was using tepe brushes - the gap was too small and it took months to work out that it was tearing the gumline and giving me infections all the time. From a period of many infections I decided to switch to floss only for that gap and touch wood there has been no infections since and hopefully the pocket can close.

I am currently going to an Ivy Tech Dental College Clinic. They diagnosed me with periodontal disease too. I had a cleaning last week and I see on their flyer that they also offer Non Surgical periodontal therapy for $30. I am not sure what that entails but I am going to call them on Monday to find out. I also don't have Insurance so I am looking into going to Afdent because they will see you without insurance and you can talk to them about financing what you need done. There is also another dentist in my area that will see you without insurance too. I have looked into adding dental through healthcare.gov because that is who I have my health insurance through however I see that all the insurance companies require you to have insurance for 12 months before they will treat you for periodontal work and than they don't cover you for more than 50%.

it would help if you used the period key on the keyboard thats the one on the keyboard that looks like a dot it goes at the end of a sentence the next word is then capitalized there are other grammatical corrections you could make as well it is very difficult to understand what is being written and give advice when the question is a jumbled mess just a suggestion

Get another opinion, that's crazy expensive.

It's a dental discount plan and pretty useless because all the participating dentists are parts of corporations like Aspen or Pacific Dental. Dentists can't stay in business and honor the prices listed in the 'policy' so they add on all sorts of services that aren't covered and that you don't need. They won't sell you a $35 filling they will tell you you need a crown, but they won't sell you the cheap $450 crown in your benefit handbook they will sell you a $1400 crown and you will pay the difference. If that's ok with you, save yourself some money and get the same plan from Costco for around $80 a year.

I have two dental policies, one from Spirit the other from Denali, they cover major work from day one. The first year Spirit pays 25% and Denali pays 30%, so my co-pay for the $4400 dentists bill was around $2000. If I keep both (and I don't think I will) next year each policy would pay 50% so I would have no co-pay and they will pay out up to $3,500 a year. And almost all the dentists are reputable local individual practice dentists. I pay about $130 a month for both policies but you can cancel at any time.

I really need some input. I went to Aspen Dental and they want to charge me $2,300.00 bucks for Periodontal work. That's after the discount that my dental savings plan gives me. They said it was like $3,300.00 before that. Should I get a second opinion? It seems high to me, especially the before discount price. We're not talking surgery here, it's the root planar scaling and putting antibiotics into the pockets and so on. They gave me a multi visit treatment plan that takes like 5 visits I believe.

I'm pretty sure the actual diagnosis was legit and I do need the work done as I seem to have some gum issues such as bleeding and so on, along with some infections and receding. I just think the price seems high. The reviews for the Aspen Dental in my area are actually really good but from what I understand nationwide they have a really sketchy reputation.

Yes get a second opinion from a non corporate dental office. Ask neighbors and friends or go to the nextdoor website and look for recommendations there. All of those places upsell, I had one of them try to sell me $2,000 in periodontal work, I got a second opinion and I had one periodontal pocket that wasn't serious, they did a cleaning, took care of the one pocket and charged me $77. I went back 4 months later and the periodontal pocket which was a 5 was now a 3 which is very good news.

Or, if you think you have periodontal disease go to a regular periodontist, but again not one associated with Aspen or Pacific Dental or any of those other crooks.

geezus..get another estimate that's really expensive and I'm not sure that laser is worth another $2,000. And the antibiotic application, it's debatable if that is even worthwhile.

http://www.dentistryiq.com/articles/...odontitis.html

I had a dentist try to sell me all of that and then I found out I didn't need it at all. And they wanted something like $77 a tooth for the arestin (antibiotic application) Also, don't let them charge you a fortune for chlorhexidine (mouthwash) the first dentist I went to who lied about my having periodontal disease wanted to charge almost $80 for a bottle, I called Walmart and if the dentist wrote a prescription it would cost $4.

Most insurance companies allow around $225 per quadrant for scaling and root planing and they don't usually cover stuff like local application of antibiotics because it's not proven to help so I would think you should be able to find someone to do the whole thing for around $1,000.
