I had started getting implants done on my top canines, they went as far as the abutment,i guess all i need are crowns, its been 2 years since the abudment,i had financial problems and could not afford to finish,i was on a payment plan and so now i have insurance but the dentist that started the implants is not on plan and i live to far away now but my question is they should be able to just put a crown on the abutment right? i mean nothing else really needs to be done? I was talking to someone and they said that the dentist would need to know what kind of implant like material ect. does anyone know if this is correct?

Having one dentist finish the work of another is always risky. But since you've chosen to go that route, you'll want to have your new dentist communicate with the old dentist and have your patient file sent over.

If you were already fitted for crowns with your last doctor, you'll have to be refitted; in the past year, your mouth has changed and those crowns have to fit perfectly when they're placed. If it hasn't been fitted yet, it'll have to be fitted now. And yes, the material used has to be discussed. You need to consult with your new doctor and have this conversation with him, not with us.
