Properly done - in most cases a lifetime. It also depends on quality of the material used.
After you get root canal and antibiotic treatment, the tooth is prepared for a crown and capped.
There are many types of crown for every budget.
For example: zirconia crowns are extremely durable, long lasting and can withstand heavier forces than other types of ceramic crowns.
Porcelain and zirconia crowns are more expensive than other crowns.
Metal crowns are cheapest, durable but not very aesthetic.(probably ok for back teeth)
How many years will root canal last? What need to be done in the future? Taking out filling and re-fill again? Or need to pull out the tooth?
Thanks.
I have some that have lasted more than 40 years and that's only because I didn't have any root canals before that, but my guess is that as Elnina says if they are properly done they last forever
They last a very long time. I have had 2 that have needed to be redone, though. One of them, the redo worked well, but, the other, it sounds like it will possibly need to be pulled, eventually as it has some resorption.
Not every root canal needs a crown. Most dentists will try to sell you one but not always needed.
Sometimes an old root canal can go bad or a root can crack and start an infection that can't be stopped without pulling the tooth.
Darn teeth can do a lot of things that keep me going back to the dentist arrgh!
My first root canal was when I was 15. I am now 77 and it's still just fine. But last year I had a different tooth root canaled twice, thanks to the endodontist's inadequate job the first time around. Even after all that I lost the tooth so sometimes, as mentioned above, the tooth can't be saved.

I have a couple that are 40+ years old, but recently had to replace one with an implant. A root canal kills the nerve and gets a crown in most cases, but the tooth left can still get decay or crack and have to be removed. In my case there was decay under the bottom edges of the crown, and there was not enough tooth wall left to repair it.
