As a former Dougco teacher I personally decided I would not have my children attend the district. Among other things the racism in the highschools was some of the worst I've seen in my career.

Make of that what you will.

I assume it varies from school to school. Maybe it was yours in particular, and also, how long ago were you teaching there? My BIL is married to a black woman and their mixed race kids go to the local public schools in Castle Rock. No issues for them.

I've never heard about racism in CR and I grew up in CO.

Similar to the tales of religious nuts in Colorado Springs- just a bunch of BS from people who have "heard things" (!)

I was there within the last 5 years. I can only speak to my own experience. The VAST majority of students I worked with were great, kind, empathetic people. Unfortunately I also saw a lot of racism and homophobia that I felt was not properly addressed by administration.

With the other issues I saw in DCSD I made the decision that it wasn't the right place for me to work or for my children to attend school. The district's negative reputation is well earned if you ask me.

People just talk **** about it because the “scary” republicans live there.

It’s a nice area and totally fine unless you spend too much time worrying about other peoples world views and opinions.

I prefer Lakewood myself, just for the location! but I’ll admit it’s not as nice and the schools are generally terrible in my area (Bel Mar)

I lived in Parker for several years, and now Castle Rock. I personally liked Parker much better. Castle Rock has better scenery, more shopping, better downtown, but is built poorly. The north side reminds me of California congestion. There is a lack of good roads in Castle Rock. It has been over built and doesn't have the infrastructure to support it. Parker has better roads, is more spread out, closer to the airport, downtown, and other suburbs.
