From what I've seen, relative to most Denver suburbs, you can still get quite a bit of home for a modest (for Denver) price. I understand CR is generally not as highly regarded as a lot of burbs as I think the school district isn't quite as strong as it's northern counterparts. However, there are some striking views. Also seems to have quite a bit of traffic though.

I'm not looking to relocate, but was just curious what areas in Denver can you get a new home, with similar views and amenities for roughly 500-700? Parker?

Honestly just curious about this board's thoughts on CR as it is rarely mentioned. Maybe for good reason?

15-20 years ago it was a gem of a place to live, then it got overbuilt, under roaded, and now it’s a cluster to get around or through it on weekends and rush hours.

I lived in Castle Rock for a couple of years in the late aughts, but we wanted to move closer to work, so we relocated to the DTC. Schools will elicit criticism, some of it well deserved, as district leadership leaves a lot to be desired. (Politics has ruined more than one school district!) But, as far as the community goes, it's very nice. You get a lot of house for your money, and, as mentioned, the views are wonderful.

Lots is misinformation on here about Castle Rock. Lived here since 2005 and raise my family here. It's very safe, very nice and while its grown a lot ... it's a great place to live. And I've lived in Boulder, Lakewood, Denver, Highlands Ranch ... Castle is by far the nicest.

The schools have has some controversy, but you also have the biggest select ion of charter schools in the state. My kids went to Douglas County (public) schools. I've coached there and the schools are good.

I'd say the east side of I-25 is generally more desirable than the west side ... but the west side by the Meadows and the Outlet Mall has more shopping (and more traffic).

Castle Rock is 8 degrees cooler than denver metro (as its 1000' higher) ... and that means a bit more winter, but a summer than never sees 100 ever. So the climate is very nice.

Nothing more than antecdotal evidence, but how welcoming is the community to minorities?

I have not seen ANY racism against minorities in Castle Rock.

The local propaganda fakenews media seems to have a negative story about Castle Rock almost weekly, but I've never seen anything bad here whatsoever.

In fact, the high schools are more diverse than what I attended growing up in "Diverse" Boulder, CO.

The thing is the weather could be a con (for some), as its not truly free from a late snow till about week or two after mothers day. But overall, its very temperate in the summer and never gets that hot and always cools down by 9pm at night. As I mentioned above, I haven't yet seen 100 since 2005 and the number of days of 95+ are usually under 10 per year.

THe amount of snow isn't horrible either. Yes, we had a crazy 2006 winter ... but several winters have had little to no shovelings.

Castle Rock is almost 82% non-Hispanic white and less than 1% Black. It's not diverse at all.

DougCo gets a well-deserved amount of criticism because it's become ground zero for QAnon kooks, election deniers, and fake patriot "Christian" nationalist nutjobs like Joe Oltmann.

This. Anything saying there are major issues about crime/racism, etc, is fake news and way over exaggerated. Castle Rock is a nice place to live, and man is it ever booming. You'd have to be okay knowing that it's growing fast and will get much bigger than it is now in the next 5-10 years.

Use the search tool on terms like "castle rock" and "water" as IIRC in years past we discussed what I think were long-term water issues there.
