Please help,

We are currently living on the south side of Warren. Not happy. Found a great house in the city of Mount Clemens, but we're getting mixed reviews on the surrounding areas. Does anyone have a unbiased perspective on what we're looking at? Area is between Harrington and 16 Mile and between Groesbeck and Gratiot. Thank you for your help!

that's a pretty nice area... there are some care-not neighbors here and there, and some well kept middle- & middle-upper-class homes... as to attitudes: who knows... but pretty safe despite robberies at kroger right across the way... our whole area is a patchwork of care & care-not with a little of each stuck in the other... :[

sorry, not a simple answer... but straight...

By Mount Clemens General, right? The area you're looking at is a great little neighborhood. Nice, single family brick ranches. Also, it's pretty isolated from the city's bad neighborhoods. The nearest area that you should be concerned about is about 3 minutes to the north of there.

But, if you have children, I would not recommend the city of Mount Clemens, primarily because of the school district. The schools are one of the reasons the city gets such a bad reputation.

Is it in the city limits or in the township? If it's in the city, that's Seminole Hills, a pretty decent place. Schools are weak, but private, school of choice, and charter options are plentiful. If it's actually in Clinton Township, it might be in the Mount Clemens schools (and it had better be priced accordingly) or in the Chippewa Valley district (more desirable). A lot of the houses in that area in the township (and some in the city) don't have basements, if you care about that.

Thank you all, so far, not worried about the school situation, have that covered. Looking into more of the crime rate, property values, and over all quality of living, past and present, but mostly what has happened to this area (yes, it's Seminole Hills) and the surrounding areas. Thanks again...Keep it coming!

Sorry that was "what has happened....and the surrounding areas" since the recession/housing crash. Thanks!

You should Deff. consider Harrison Twp. or Clinton Twp. Mount Clemens is just getting worse and worse.

Both cost more, but have some lower-end areas with pricing in line with Mt. Clemens. Both have crime, less than most of Mt. Clemens, but often more than you'd think. The car parked next to mine here in Harrison was broken into last night. (Thank goodness for that little voice telling me to lock the door last night.) These areas, especially in Clinton, are pretty crummy areas. Property taxes in the townships are often less, but that depends on the school district. Clintondale is probably the highest, but that's not a good school district. L' Anse Creuse is probably the lowest, and it's an okay district.
