There are so many products on the market today that claim to beef up your metabolism through a variety of mechanisms and help you "burn fat" more quickly. While a sensible, calorie-restricted diet and a good exercise program is the basis for any weight loss program, I'm curious whether any CD members feel they have received any positive boost or benefit from any of the countless products that are on the market today. Not talking about HCG or appetite suppressants--I'm thinking more along the lines of growth hormone precursor supplements, green tea, cayenne pepper and things of that nature.
Personally, I have had a big increase in energy--and thus am more able to be consistent with workouts--from taking calcium pyruvate every day.
Does anyone have any personal anecdotes they want to share?
They do not work. Save your money. Just eat whole healthy foods and exercise. If any foods give a benefit it is going to be minimal. Green tea has a lot of good things going for it. If you like spicy foods use cayenne. Eat a diet full of variety foods and try not to get hung up on the stuff that really does not matter.
Green tea, plain black coffee, cinnamon, hot sauce, getting 7-8 hours of sleep, lifting weights-are all great metabolism boosters(so I've heard). Fat burning? Broccoli, apples, lean chicken breast, natural peanut butter, ice cold water, grape-fruit, etc. Try doing it this way and you'll see results.
The only one that worked was the old EC (ephedrine/caffeine) stack. Great appetite suppressant (though it lost effectiveness with continued use) with some metabolic boost as well.
They work IMO, but since I am prone to anxiety anyway, they are pretty much off limits for me. The only one I took in the last year was one with green tea, and Advantra Z/Bitter Orange which worked, but because I sweat more than avg it really made me sweat a lot at times.
I've never given them a second thought but I went to an ENT the other day and his nurse told me that she had lost 60 some lbs in the past year. I asked how she did it and the only thing she offered was taking some fat burning/metabolism pill that she got at GNC. I was pretty surprised!
I just lost ten lbs and it took a lot of working out and watching calories just to do that.

go back in 6mths and you'll see that she regained 80 lbs while you kept off your 10 lbs and maybe more

Interesting. Thanks for posting this info. I wonder if she took the tri-pepper GNC blend written about in this article.
I agree with Kim in FL--if she does not alter her current eating habits of calories in to equal calories out, the weight will be regained. A really good exercise program followed consistently is an absolute necessity to maintaining a weight loss.
Green tea is a natural way to boost your metabolism. At least 30 min daily exercise and low fat yogurt good for our digestive system. These things keep you fit and healthy.

I agree. For energy boost I usually eat a banana or dry fruits like almonds. I read somewhere that vitamins or nutrients dont work when isolated from their main source. Its like a team effort. Eat foods that contain the nutrients you need & they will perform as a team but when you isolate a single nutrient it wont be of any benefit. A single player cannot win a match by themselves, it needs a team. Whole foods are the best. Our money is best spent in farmers market rather than a pharmacy store. All these boosters, fat burners, etc. are overrated. They might work short term but we wont be able to sustain the weight loss if we dont follow a healthy diet & some exercise for life.
