I've recently joined a keto Facebook group that is beginning to drive me a little crazy. Almost every post is sharing some pricey "keto-friendly" cookie, dessert, treat, bar, shake, chocolate, or candy made with sugar substitutes. Isn't the idea of keto - or one of them - to eat more real food and less junk (which is what made us overweight to begin with) in general? In fact, isn't it a goal to eventually lose your craving for sugar and starches? And isn't this perpetuating bad eating habits by "feeding the beast" and defeating the spirit, if not the letter, of the law? I swear some of those posters will eat anything that says "keto" on the package and are eating nothing else!

I avoid any packaged products with the word “keto” on it. Normally they’re packed with chemicals additives preservatives etc, tons of sugar alcohols that mess with my system for hours afterwards. They have never, ever, ever been worth it to me. If I want something sweet I’ll eat some berries.

Not to mention that these processed food products are ridiculously expensive (taking advantage of the current keto craze)! I may be looking for another group...

Yeah, for sure.

There is actually one “keto” packaged food I will eat - “Dang” bars are pretty good and just use natural ingredients. They use just a bit of stevia as a sweetener but they aren’t very sweet at all, just the right amount IMO. But any of the chocolate bars or cookies or anything like that, no way.

Yeah, stay away from those premade keto snacks. Google keto fat bombs for some treat ideas.

I've been on My Ketogenic Kitchen on Facebook. They don't allow any posts regarding the cheat treats. Your posts have to be approved before it shows up too, it's not just a free for all with "lazy keto" posters. Good advice and good recipes.

We try to not eat anything that is pre-packaged. We even make our own salad dressing. Try to stay away from preservatives. I don't even look at all the crap. We eat fish, meat, veggies and some fruit. Easy to shop.

No, not usually. I've been involved in low-carb for 11 years and can't remember ever seeing that as the goal of low-carb, paleo or keto. Most people are trying to lose weight or control their diabetes. Others are trying to fix or control some other health problem.

People with a sweet tooth would seem more likely to develop problems related to sugar intake, hence the desire for desserts they can safely eat. If they are under stress or live with carb eaters, it may be the only way they can stick to the diet.

Step one: Avoid Facebook keto groups. They are evil.

Step two: Come to the reddit side. There are several great keto subreddits.

Source: I've been keto for years.

I should clarify: I've never seen overcoming cravings as a primary goal. Some people do have it as a secondary goal; others are fine eating keto cookies or keto "mac" and cheese, especially if they're made out of real food like ground almonds or cauliflower.

I've been on keto for more than a year now. I don't buy into the "Keto" labeled marketing crap. Focus on food labels and having the knowledge of what foods can break your keto including high amounts of protein and non-saturated fats are bad too.

What I consider a really good Keto Sweet?

That will be making your own coconut custard pie with either an almond flower crust or simply eat the custard but don't eat the crust and make sure the pie is sweeten with pure stevia or monkfruit sugar.

I also make my own cheesecake with stevia. Remember that while cheese is somewhat keto friendly, it is only in limited quantity as lactose in milk and cream cheese is still sugar.
