I remember watching this funny comedian on TV in the 80's when I was a kid. I recorded him with my tape recorder. He wasn't even that famous, but he was just so silly and really appealed to me and my friends at that age.
At one point he said just randomly blurted out a line from this famous song but he changed the lyrics so that it references some large/overweight (unnamed) woman. Just completely stupid. But he was so silly even the women in the audience laughed.
Anyway, one night I was talking with my friend on the phone and we were both listening to the tape, him through his receiver. He had party lines, so he told me he wanted to call up this fat girl and have me play that brief part of the comedy bit. I didn't think it was right but I went along. He called her and she answered. Then I pressed Play but there was only silence. She hung up after a few seconds, then he asked me what happened. I had accidentally hit Record instead of the play button. Not only did it not play but it erased that part. Maybe it was really my conscience that erased it by pressing the wrong button.
I used to really like Carlin, Dangerfield, and Cosby when I was little. They were IT!
As I got a little older, I watched Jay Leno, John Mendoza and Steve Martin.
In modern times, I like:
Blue Collar guys (Foxworthy, White, Engval, and Larry TCG)
Brian Regan
John Pinette (RIP)
Jim Gaffigan (if he stays out of politics)
Lewis Black
Kathleen Madigan

Don Rickles - Classic! May he R.I.P.
Dave Chappelle - Most agree he's the comedy king of our day. He's great.
Joan Rivers - Gutsy, shocking in-your-face ballsy woman. May she also R.I.P.
Louis Anderson - Provincially sweet and absolutely hilarious. A great actor, too!
Sebastian Maniscalco - #1 observational humorist at this time, IMO. Never miss his specials!
Bill Burr - Crass, sarcastic, but deep down a really good human shines through. Can't beat that! George Carlin - World class, quite possibly THE best of all time.
Russell Brand - Smart, witty, lovable, astounding command of the English language!
Mitch Hedberg - Best one-liners. May he also R.I.P.
Josh Blue - So unique! Love him.
Doug Stanhope - Tragic, gross humor but hilarious, real.
I could go on and on... Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor of course...too many to list.
