Advertisements

Curiously I was watching a singer's Christmas special on YouTube and the ads came at the song breaks. Maybe in mid sentence during the intersong banter but none of the songs was interrupted. And it was noticeable and beyond random chance. I wonder if the artist had figured out how YouTube seeds their ads or was a deal cut and YouTube somehow chaptered her show themselves. In the end it did prove that it is possible to set up the ads, if someone was willing too.

But more often than not, YouTube ads appear in the middle of a song or some other video, which is insanely annoying. I understand that they make money on advertising, but you need to do it within some reasonable limits. There are 8 commercials per video 30 minutes long. Some kind of nightmare.

Creators have the ability to manually place mid-roll ads. So if one shows up in the middle of a song rather than at a break, it's because the creator didn't bother to manage their ads better. They also have the ability to control the number of ads.

Nor have I. Comes with my Google account, or did anyway. I pay for a bit more storage space, and couple years ago noted I was also on YT Premium. I'd not tried it until c. 2017-18. Now I watch quite a few informative videos daily. Google Music merged with YT Music at some point in the past c. 6 months, so there I am as all my playlists and preferences migrated just fine, as-expected. Pretty happy with all of it.

I watch a decent amount of Youtube and don't find the ads all that bothersome. Seems like you can skip the majority of them after five seconds anyway. It's a little less than ideal, but not enough to get me to spring for premium.
