No, because T-Mobile has no coverage anywhere in the state! Yes, the phone might roam on a carrier there, but then you're limiting your usage, you can't get a local number, and you can't complain when things go wrong.
You best choices are Alltel and Verizon, and of those two, I like Alltel better. They have several advantages over most carriers, but you may be just as happy with Verizon. These are the two least likely to have dropped calls. For more info look at the North Dakota Cellular Reviews page.
I live in Fargo and have Verizon. It works perfectly - I haven't needed a land line in years. As far as St. Cloud, the service there as well as the interstate between Fargo and St. Cloud has great service on the Verizon network.
My wife and I moved to Fargo about 8 months ago from Arizona where we had T-Mobile. We still have T-mobile and it works fine for phone calls and txt messages. However, T-Zones and Internet browsing do not work. So, if that's important you need to get a different provider. You will most likely be roaming on a Unicell tower, it'll say something like USA 590 on your screen. There's a lot of cell phone ads in the paper here, just switch to one of them if you have problems. Hope this helps.

We only want the phone service. T-Mobile has the best plans. You say T-Mobile works okay up there? You think it would work in an apartment in Fargo?
If not, and if we had to switch to another carrier, wouldn't we be out some money (start up fees)?
I never had problems with apartments, basements on the other hand, Not so good. Another thing to keep in mind is that the minute you leave Fargo tower starts getting iffy. My wife's job took her to Jamestown a few times and she had no tower. We're near the end of our contract so we're going to switch to another provider soonish.
Definitely go with Verizon. I lived in a few different places in NoDak and never had any problems with Verizon. A friend had Sprint and was always having issues with coverage throughout the state when she would travel between cities.
Im glad to see Verizon is good up there. my wife and I are probably moving to Fargo in Spring (her whole family is from there) and I never even thought about if our phones would work!
Thanks guys
