Just wanted to get a good sense of what kind of people are moving there and from where.

My guess is Missouri and Oklahoma for obvious reasons.
Always saw a lot of Texas plates when I’ve been there.
Also seen several California tags. It’s one of their top go-to places but still pales in comparison to other refugee hotspots.
Minnesota is another one. Some Illinois. They think they’re going to the “mountains”.

Based on all of our time in Arkansas my answer is Texas. There were always legions of people from Texas over there, including our clan as we lived in the DFW area back then.

Why are you so concerned about this?

Excluding Missouri and Oklahoma for obvious reasons, I see a lot of Texas plates. Also people from Johnson County, KS seem to be around here a lot, but I always assume they're just visiting rather than moving here given that both areas are similar economically with an easy 3 hour drive between them.

Have seen several New York plates lately. That might be a trend.

I mostly look at the plate when people drive like idiots, or with a lot of hesitancy (implying they don't know the area).

I don't know that out of state license plates really give an accurate depiction on whose moving here. There are lots of people who come here from out of state for work or to visit. I have met a lot of people that have moved here from California but can't say I recall seeing lots of California plates.

We have a lot of CA folks moving here. You will see a lot of CA tags in the area. A lot of Texas tags, as always. These days it’s not uncommon to see tags from all over the country. If out of state tags are spotted close to I-49, they are passing through. If they are spotted within the towns, they may have relocated or looking for a place to relocate. If they have mountain bikes hanging off the back, they are visiting and more than likely staying at a nearby Airbnb.

Good to hear from you, my ol' Georgia bud. How's that new section of 49 up to the MO border developing? I figured the subdivisions, office complexes and retail/dining strip centers would take no time at all to be underway. We haven't been able to make it down and check it out since our last trip, which happened right before the lockdowns came in the spring of '20.

I agree with knrstz in that a large percentage of the folks with out of state plates are just passing through. I know we (former) Texans were always dying for a slice of that splendid Arkansas scenery, so many a day trip's been made there from the Lone Star State.
