There is at least one Iphone app that includes 1 year of service or the purchase price of $2. It use another phone number in your area code but otherwise is pretty much the same after you launch the app. So glad I found it; carriers seem to have very high mark ups on texting which really accounts for very few bytes transferred.

personally i get unlimited free texts alogn with pic messages from sprint. you can also send free texts online. heck i think even virgin mobile offers unlimited texts along with everything else for just $25 no need to even pay 2 bucks, plus sounds like an inconvenience and potential confusion having a second phone number just for texting

That's good for you buy the largest, Verizon, and second largest, AT&T, carriers in the US charge extra for texting on their individual plans. Also there is a second phone number but once you choose it the app is seamless in using it.
Google Voice, which is the only phone # I give out, is free, integrated already with my android phone with a dedicated app, and allows me to text for free. I therefore use that instead of going through Verizon, which charges extra. GV also rings all my phones at the same time so people only have to program in one number for me.
No you don't. You can use Google Voice from any computer with an internet connection.
There are probably a thousand sites where I can send a free text message from a computer with an internet connection, so that's nothing new. My point was that I pay nothing extra to annoy everybody around me with my texting by just not doing it.

Fine.
"My personal mobile telecommunications needs are completely fulfilled with a voice-only calling plan and whatever basic feature phone my provider offers free or at minimal charge, therefore I feel that I am living a more frugal life in this regard than those who feel they must have mobile text messaging and/or internet access even if they receive these services at very little cost."
Better?
