7. Invest in a greenhouse if you've taken to growing your own food. It can extend the growing season. You may be able to make or build your own with free materials. Do not be afraid to ask people whom you think would otherwise toss them out.
My grandfather, a guy who grew up in the Great Depression and the best vegetable gardener I’ve ever known, used to build greenhouses out of old window panes. If you can get your hands on enough old windows, you can build one a lot cheaper than buying one.

Seriously, Google it lol.

I saw a young guy building a greenhouse from windows when I was walking my dogs. He painted it to match his house and it looked nice.

If we were shopping large chain stores, it may take time to shop daily. I can see that. We lived in a small town just 5 min away from a wonderful grocery store plenty large enough to meet our needs. We hopped on our bikes and was at the store in about 7 minutes. Shopped for 7 minutes, 7 min back home. Much quicker and we didn't need to cook dinner nor clean up. SO NICE and we saved a ton of $ that way. The owners owned 10 of these Holiday Market grocery stores about 25% the size of a typical grocery chain. Each day there was organic discounted fruit and vegetables. We also shopped at a Health Food Store weekly located 30 min away when we were in that town. It really cut down on our food bill.

Currently, we shop at a discount grocery store in a local Tourist Town called Grocery Outlet. Probably about the same size as our little store in the smaller town we were in when we were young and poorer. The local Health Food store we visit only to buy Kale, it is so expensive. Encompasses 4 aisles, a huge produce section, juice bar, refrigerated section.

We have grocery outlets in our town but the selection is limited so definitely can’t do all your shopping there but prices are great. Luckily we have Winco which is only in 9 states because the prices are wonderful with a big selection and good quality.

Interesting. We've lived in 3 towns with Grocery Outlets and the nearest one to us right now, is the best one. Healthiest food however the surrounding community is all rich athletic people so it makes sense. They definitely vary, good point

We have 4 in town and not one could supply your needs. It’s basically a place to get some stuff cheap. Like everything they probably vary by location.

https://www.buysalvagefood.com/salvage-grocer-map.html

I shop at a salvage grocer and save a lot of money.

When I was a single parent, I had my main fed job which is providing a comfortable pension now, and also worked for GAP - provided great discounts on my son's school clothing (and mine) and also for the local cable company - provided free cable TV (before internet times).

I always required my second jobs to provide a perk and it was great. Son was in high school and was well-behaved so I could let him alone for job #2 - one five hour weekday shift, one 8 hour weekend shift. Job #3 was one six hour shift during the week and one 8 hour weekend shift. Took a bit of juggling but the rewards - extra income, free cable, nice clothing was worth it.

I agree. I work two jobs. I am not going to the store three times a week or growing my own food.
