I recall when gasoline prices surged in the ‘70’s from 35 cents a gallon (hard to imagine that now!) to roughly 60 cents a gallon, my Mom would wait in line on Tuesday at our local Shell station, which had cheaper prices on Tuesday. She’d often wait 15-20 minutes in line to save a few cents (probably a sum of money in those days) to fill up our gas guzzling 1969 Pontiac Lemans.
(A 35 cent to 60 cent increase is significant, in percentage terms.)
I don't know if you've priced airfare lately but the less desirable the departure or arrival ends up being, oftentimes the cheaper the flight. If you leave at 5 AM or are willing to get in at midnight there are often savings for the flight.
I'll throw out, sewing your own clothes (not sewing to fix, but actually make.) Reloading ammunition, in most cases. It's still done as a hobby to optimize performance.
Changing your own oil, in many cases.

Tuesday's rib eyes, appetizers, desert for three ran about $50 and steak for stteak/grits for breakfast and a decent lunch for SO.
Plain trim, no wash/set/dry runs $50 here.

About half of those are just things you probably don't do anymore because you don't have to. People still buy frozen pizza and boxed mac n cheese for cheap meals.
Buses are still around. Took Megabus a time or two when I was younger. I see them around still.
Shoe repair is an interesting one. Still available and worth it for leather boots like cowboy boots, and nicer dress shoes. But you're right, it isn't nearly as commonly done as there are far fewer people that wear dress shoes all the time and many that do, have high enough income that it's irrelevant.
I don't know about brown bag book covers but it was common practice in the mid 2000's. It wasn't a way to save money, per se, but it was a way to preserve books, and required by many teachers.

Just do the math - components versus factory. Three/four rounds a week end for fun adds up.

Reusable plastic covers for leftovers…they looked like mini shower caps.
Returnable glass milk bottles have indeed gone the way of all flesh, but reusable plastic covers for bowls that have bands that hold them in place are very much available still.
