How many of you remember these:
Flying night coach to save airfare.
Staying over a Saturday night for same reason.
Calling after 9 PM to save on long distance.
Radio Shack Battery of the Month club.
Any others you can think of?

People still fly night coach to save money. In fact, some federal agencies fly interviewees for jobs out to DC on night coach to save money, and even fly foreign delegations around on red-eye fares for that reason as well.

I remember this. All the major telecoms had various specials/promos..."enjoy unlimited 5 cents/minute for your first six months". I remember Sprint snail-mailing a $50 check to sign up with them as a long distance carrier. The younger generation has no idea that long distance calls cost more, before cell phones existed. I remember having to make calls out of state and watching the clock, every minute was another ten cents. Some people didn't have long distance service on their land line. If you tried the call just wouldn't go through.

When I got my first cell phone around 12 years ago it was a prepaid Tmobile for something like $10/month with limited minutes, but calls occurring between 7pm and 7am didn't apply. I used to tell people not to call me before 7pm because it would use up my minutes too quickly. LOL

Coupon clipping.
S & H Green stamps.
Cooking from scratch and having enough leftovers for a second dinner.
Taking a lunch to work.*
Homemade gifts.
Women setting hair with curlers, slips and bobby pins, and cutting their kids' hair instead of taking them to a salon.

*Btw, can anyone tell me if it now cheaper to buy school lunches or send kids to school with a bag lunch?

I don't know if you've priced airfare lately but the less desirable the departure or arrival ends up being, oftentimes the cheaper the flight. If you leave at 5 AM or are willing to get in at midnight there are often savings for the flight.

I'll throw out, sewing your own clothes (not sewing to fix, but actually make.)
Reloading ammunition, in most cases. It's still done as a hobby to optimize performance.
Changing your own oil, in many cases.
