Seattle had a music thing in the 90s, but the 10s were really when stuff boomed...Amazon, 25% in-city population growth, etc.

The 1960s are giving me the Bay Area - student activists at Berklee, hippies, etc.

The 1970s are very New York City for me - Taxi Driver, Annie Hall, Saturday Night Fever. Studio 54 and the whole disco scene.

Actually the 80s for NYC too - Ghostbusters, Do The Right Thing, Moonstruck, Tootsie, Escape from NY, etc. Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benatar, Madonna when she moved to NYC and debuted, etc.

If we see lasting cultural or institutional changes as a result of these protests, the 2020s could be the Portland decade.

Microsoft is a huge job center, but it grew more in the '90s and '00s. Amazon being one of the world's biggest corporations is more recent.

For the 2010s, I'd say Dallas.

1870's:
Chicago

Despite the great fire in 1971 that destroyed 1/3rd of the city and left over 100.000 people homeless it still grew by 200.000+ pop. over the decade.
