If you wanted to buy a place in the North Georgia mountains, which area has the most amenities? restaurants, shopping, gym, etc. for everyday living?

All of them have all of them, to be honest. Using Union County as an example, there are over 50 restaurants, Cuban, Mexican, Italian, Greek, Chinese (although I haven't found an outstanding one yet). Shopping is great for day to day items. If you're looking for boutique high fashion you won't find it but then again why do you need that up here? If it's what you are looking for maybe N. Ga isn't what you are searching for. Union county has two or three gyms, coffee shops, mom and pop groceries and one of the nicest Ingles around along with several specialty food stores. We've been in the mountains 10 years this year. I used to make the long trek down to the city about once a month, but after about year one I learned that I can get everything I want or need right here close to home. Each little mountain town has its own feel and vibe but none of them completely cut off from what most folks consider civilization......

Spot on post, aus. I lived part time in Blue Ridge for about a decade. Never had to worry about driving down to the big city for anything. Blue Ridge has many very good eateries, great shops (even boutiques), bars, stores, etc. There's a Home Depot and WalMart, several good groceries (Ingel's was our favorite), auto dealerships and so on. I don't know if it has a gym, but we used the high school tennis courts regularly. Great hiking and boating on the lake. I would happily live there full time if only my wife didn't mind winters so much!

Thanks Ansley. I always get a kick out of about 50% of the move-ins. They move up here to get away from it all and the hustle and bustle, but then gripe and complain that they can't find that same hustle and bustle. We've been thinking of selling and moving on to try to find again what we had found (the peace and quiet) because Union County has went from a sleepy little county of just over 17K to over 22K in 9 1/2 years. That population growth in this county is bigger than the whole town I grew up in!

I'm not looking for hustle and bustle, but also not looking to become Jeremiah Johnson (mountain man for those scratching their head).
And I have no need to venture into Atlanta since I work remote.
Currently focusing on Blue Ridge and Blairsville so you may need to adjust that population figure to 22,004, lol.

There is always Elijay, remote as you want, but can still be close to Woodstock, Canton and even Atl.

Good point, but I'm also looking for the lowest temps in Georgia and that appears to be Blairsville due to elevation.
Blairsville looks to be around 10 degrees cooler at night than Atlanta which really makes a difference during the summer. A low temp of 60 means you can open the windows overnight, whereas a low of 70 means the AC runs 24x7.
