When your grandma has a grandma

When my niece was pregnant, she told my grandmother/her great-grandmother that she was going to give birth on her 90th birthday.

And she did. My grandmother was born on June 17, 1907, and my great-nephew was born on June 17, 1997, her first great-great-grandchild. She lived for four more years.

That boy is now 21. My mother, his great-grandmother, will be 90 tomorrow. If he has a kid in the next few years, it could happen again...

We dont have any great greats yet but the chances are really good. My niece is 17 graduating high school this year. My grandmother (her great grandmother) is 74. She was 20 when my mom was born. 37 when my sister was born. 56 when my niece (her first great grandchild, there have been 4 more) was born. My niece is 17 and her sister is 15. My grandmother is in excellent health and is mentally sound, she could love another 10-15 years. Which is long enough to see a few great great grandchildren. If she lives to 100 she will probably see greatx3 grandchildren

My grandmother lived to 104. She had 12 great, greats before she died.

My mom's oldest sister is married to a man whose maternal grandmother is still alive. She's currently 99 years old and is due to turn 100 in a few months. My mom's sister and her husband have three grandchildren already, and my uncle's grandma has many other great-great-grandchildren.

Have you ever met anyone who's lived to see their great-great-grandchildren?

My oldest brother was born while both of his maternal great- great grandfathers were alive. (2 sets of 5 generations) When his son was born his maternal great grandmother was still alive so another 5 generation for him, this time as the father instead of the child. When my grandmother died (the grandmother and great grandmother in the 3 previous sets mentioned) the same brother had 2 grandchildren, 1 had one and another brother had 1 so she had 4 great-great grandchildren when she died just short of 90.

I think this rarely happens anymore because in the above instances my mother married at 17, grandma at 18, and previous generations were about the same age or younger so women had grandchildren almost before some women nowadays even have their first children.

I have….that person would be “Granny Lucille” (my mom’s maternal grandmother). She was in her mid-80s when I had my daughter, and I’m glad that Holly got to meet and take pictures with her at least once before she died. (Granny Lucille lived on the other side of the country, so we didn’t get together very often)

My grandfather had quite a few great great grandchildren when he died at age 82. He was married twice and 20 years older than the second wife, my grandmother. I have cousins (his grandchildren) older than my mother. Those cousins had children. Because there was such an age difference between his children I don't recall how many great great grandchildren he had. He had 26 grandchildren at the time of his death. A few couple more came along after he died.

My grandma is a great great-grandma. She is 75. My grandpa passed away a few years ago but wasn't around for his great great grandchild.He would be 79 now. My Dad is 56 and a great grandpa.
