There are plenty of gays in the military. Keeping it to themselves is for their own protection....not because the military is trying to keep them out. There is nothing wrong with 'don't ask - don't tell' because a person's love life has nothing to do with their job in the service anyway. There is no reason to discuss it either way while on duty.

The problem is that gays can be evicted because of their sexual orientation, which is discrimination.
Seriously, its because wether we admit it or not sex is a strong emotional thing in human beings & theres enough for people to think about in a war without worrying about who wants to poke who in the butt ect.
homosexuality does not = anal sex romping. That's all you people ever think of when you hear the term "gay" or "homosexual".

It's a relationship.
Unfortuantely due to the media and several jokes about homosexuals many have formed this sterotype. And when I was living in MD where there are alot of homosexuals, they were very open about their "gayness" and wanted others to join in with them. For example they showed affection in public places (mostly the women) which is something I would not want my children to see and I don't want to see that either. And I'd hate to see what the homosexuals do in the military.
The military's job is to defend the nation. It is not the forum to use for social experimentation. Yet that is what people want to use it for.
The military is a very conservative organization and holds to values that most Americans seem to want to ignore. The idea that marriage is important. The military still has adultery on the books as a reason to take legal action against someone. The military still tries to adhere to the idea that, "I will not lie cheat or steal nor tolerate those who do." The "gay" lifestyle is not a conservative value. Also, the current DADT goes contrary to that, as it forces lying by omission. That needs to change. Regardless of which way the issue goes, DADT is a bad policy and forced on the military by Clinton.
The military recognizes disease as one of the leading causes for death during a war. In some wars the number who died from their wounds was lower than the number who died due to disease. And like it or not, the gay lifestyle promotes the spread of disease. Even in 2006, the last year the CDE released its stats, the majority of new AIDS cases were still occurring in gay males. Also, USA 300, also called SUPER MRSA, is 8 times more common in the Castro (gay) district of San Francisco than in the entire rest of the city.
Lastly, just how would you house gays? Just as you can not put women and men into the same room due to sexual norms, people who are straight will not want to be housed in the same room as a gay. Just as straight women do not like the idea of a straight guy looking at their boobs and butts, straight women would not like it a gay woman doing the same. It would make housing a nightmare.
I think we need to get rid of DADT. I think we need to go back to the honest answer and one that is compatible with the military. We need to ban gays once again.

Please do. There isn't a snowball's chance in Hell I'd ever serve for people like you, anyway.
If that is a concern of policy makers then they would not allow women into the military. Your argument concerning "who wants to poke who in the butt" doesn't pass muster because men serve alongside women.
Now, but not traditionally. Also I think you'll find that women & men do not bunk together or even actually serve side by side in most instances.
